I have a tannish-brown skirt I've been sewing with gathered tiers and the top two passementerie gimp fabric trims could work on this perfectly. The color of the skirt is almost exactly the accent color of the middle style. Perhaps with some ivory venise lace or white ruffled raschel lace underneath. The other option would be the top gimp braid with black venise lace or ruffled raschel lace for a more steampunk look. Currently these are the only colors available in this style, but new items are always showing up to satisfy your (and MY) insatiable craving for delicious embellishments.

 

Other great projects I can see making with this style would be upcycling Tshirts, placing around the collar of a T-tunic, criss-crossed on the body of an Elizabethan doublet for a Shakespearian play or renaissance faire.

 

For the handmade market, this would be a really lovely headband - make 2 and have one for mommy and one for baby! It also would make adorable handles for a cute little clutch bag for a night on the town.

 

Cosplayers might like this style for their Victorian style corsets and skirts for that touch of authenticity to the glamour of La Belle Epoch.

 

I wouldn't use this for an Elizabethan skirt, except maybe at the very bottom - it's a bit heavy to use to demark a diapered (diamond-shaped) pattern across the full length of the skirt and could make it hang bunchy.

 

You could certainly use this gimp braid for heavy curtains or drapery, including on the top and bottom of the tie-backs to delineate it nicely from the full length of your luxury window treatment.

One of the most unique uses I've heard of for a narrow trim was around the edges of a computer monitor.

Pink!!!

I am working on a pair of Italian Ren sleeves in Pink and Gold out of all fabric trim...well, except for the lining fabric which is a soft, lightweight cotton which will be more comfortable on the inside...

Here is my inspiration:

I did a test layout of the fabric trims. Sadly, my good point-and-shoot camera was taken out by my mischievous sewing assistants (BAD KITTY! BAD!!!). A friend was kind enough to lend me her digital video camera that takes stills. I haven't figured out how to get it to take good pics. I'm such a techno retard anymore...Sigh.



Well, here is the best one showing the strips of fabric trim with the gold braid passementerie criss-crossed over top. The chevrons on the fabric trim are going opposite directions in the layout cause it was easier that way. In the real sleeves, the pink fabric trim will all be facing the same way. I believe I will have the points of the chevrons facing down, but I might change my mind.

I might add some pink beads too, but not sure, as it's hard to decide where to stop so that you aren't leaning on beads...not too comfortable.



Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that these are for a costume contest that I entered for Realm of Venus' October Perfectly Period Pink mini-challenge to support breast cancer awareness?? I did forget? Well, far be it from me to do things the easy way...gotta get crackin! This is my very first costuming competition, the first of many I hope.
